Integrity Fencing Studio

As a family activity with the idea of trying something new, we did an introductory class. They were so informative and had everything we needed-we learned the basics and even competed. Our schedule was a little nutty scheduling it and Al was very patient and accommodating while we figured out a day/time. Him and his team are very knowledgeable. We left feeling we had a great overview on what fencing involves. Highly recommend Al and his team.

When it comes to fencing, not only are the coaches important, but the environment in which you train also makes a huge difference. While I did not start at Integrity, I immediately felt the welcoming environment when I walked into the club. At Integrity, everyone looks out for each other, whether it's on the strip or off the strip. The older club members are always willing to help the younger fencers out both in practice and at tournaments. Integrity is like one big family; we help each other out in whatever way we can. Al is also a fantastic coach! While he trains you hard, he does it because he wants you to improve. He takes care of you like his own son!

When an ex-Soviet fencing master opens a club in a New Jersey suburb near you, you should sign up for a trial class. I started fencing with coach Al and his son in middle school. Throughout high school, I competed at regional and national tournaments. Thanks to my experience competing for Integrity and training with Al, I was able to walk on to the varsity fencing team at an Ivy League university. Over the years, other Integrity fencers have gone further, earning medals at nationals in Division I and Division II. Beyond being an excellent fencing coach, Al is a special human being. Whether you’re aiming for national-level competitive achievement or something different, your life will be touched.

Al is a great guy as a coach and friend. He assess the goals of all his students and tailors his coaching to align with them. I have been training with Al for over 4 years and he always brings the same focus and energy to his lessons. Al creates a collaborative environment focused on helping his students reach their full potential and the success of his students even after they move on from fencing speaks to his ability to sharpen not only his students' athletic ability but also character. I have been a student of Al for over a decade. He has led me through countless high school, local, regional and national tournaments. Al is a bastion of fencing strategy, technique, history, and the current state of the sport. He fosters an environment that encourages everyone to try to be their best, and to enjoy the process of learning the sport. Aside from being an amazing coach he is also a wonderful person. He is one of the most compassionate, honorable, kind, funny, and devoted people I have ever met.
