Green Street Garage

Had property stolen out of our vehicle today. Filed a police report and was told that this happens all the time in that garage. There is no security system. The attendants were very helpful but there's only so much they can do. Emailed the city and was told they have asked for increased security and cameras because theft occurs there ALL the time. However, the developer of the parking structure refuses to do so. Do NOT use this garage. Drug use is rampant. Saw people smoking drugs on stairwell. Quick Google search shows similar complaints with used hypodermic needles, etc. We didn't know any better as we are from out of town. Lesson learned. Avoid at all costs.

The best garage for the commons in my opinion. Park late enough and they open the gate for free parking after 6(?) on weekends. Elevators were working 1/31.

Haven’t been here in 5 years. What happened!?! It used to be just a parking garage. Now….Horrifying place. Smells like a sewer. People sleeping in the stairs. Needles in the stairwells. One stairwell has huge blood stains on the steps. All of them have trash and clothes and human fluids. Groups of people hanging out on the stairs, blocking the way, they just stare and won’t move. Elevators wreak of piss. I went to my car alone after dark and a man came out of the stairwell and approached me quickly. Luckily I had my dogs and pepper spray and he left when I reached into my bag and my dogs started barking. Guess Ithaca has finally absorbed all that reality it was surrounded by.

NEEDS SECURITY CAMERAS!! There has been so much crime and suspicious activity happening in this garage ever since the Asteri apartments opened up. People shooting up behind cars, breaking into vehicles, camping in the apartmenr stariways, etc. Ithaca's crime rate has skyrocketed in recent years. The city and IPD hardly do anything to prevent this. Shelters and rehab centers in the city have been defunded, homelessness and drugs are rampant in Downtown Ithaca, consolidating on The Commons. I've lived in Ithaca my entire life, 28 years, and for the past 5-8 years it has felt very unsafe, and all the city wants to do is make pretty buildings and cater to tourists/students rather than support it's locals and long time residents. The only place to catch a Trailways, Greyhound, or Flixbus out of town is also the local transfer location for local buses.
